We are news! The Spanish Association of Biomass Energy Valorisation (AVEBIOM) refers to our rural accommodation for the use of biomass of agro-forestry origin to cover our thermal energy needs, both for heating and for the production of Domestic Hot Water (DHW) and hot water for the Arab baths.

Eco-sustainable tourism: renewable energy produced on the farm itself.
The rural accommodation Molino Saúco is an old flour mill located in the Sierra de La Sagra (Puebla de Don Fadrique, Granada) at an altitude of over 1,300 metres above sea level, which has been restored as a tourist accommodation, and is equipped with Arabic baths (hammam).
The farmhouse, with more than 400 m2 It is located in the valley of the river Bravatas, in the Agüjeros ravine, and requires a significant amount of energy to cover its heating and sanitary hot water needs, especially for the hammam, which maintains the temperature of the water at between 30-35ºC.
The solution proposed by the owner, José Luis Alarcón, to cover these heating needs was to take advantage of the woody agricultural biomass produced on the farm itself, where there are vine and almond trees, as well as the forest biomass produced during the clearing of the forest.
In this way, and after analysing different options, the company OFITECA was commissioned to install an 80kWh HERZ boiler suitable for the incorporation of multi-fuel.
Once the biomass from vine shoots and almond tree pruning has been cleaned of inorganic impurities (stone, sandstone, metals, etc.), it is chipped to the right size on the farm itself and stored in big-bags to feed the silo throughout the year.
The process of cleaning-valorisation of this biomass is carried out with the Wood Cleaning Equipment patented by ATHISA BIOGENERACIÓN, obtaining a biomass free of improper materials, which allows its use in this type of installations.
Since its installation at the end of 2021, the boiler has been operating on a regular basis, achieving results of
For this purpose, OFITECA prepared the boiler configuration for the proper combustion of these biomasses, controlling the basic parameters for optimum operation.
During the commissioning process, we carried out an evaluation of different fuels from vine biomass supplied by ATHISA BIOGENERACIÓN, specifically: vine shoot pellets, vine pruning chips and vine stump chips. All of them performed excellently, offering very satisfactory combustion parameters.
The maintenance staff of the Sauco Mill is in charge of cleaning the boiler and feeding the silo.
In this way, the rural house Molino Saúco has managed to produce all its thermal energy from renewable sources that are generated on the agricultural-forestry estate itself, offering a sustainable experience to its guests, in accordance with the principles of ecotourism.
